Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the universe, who formed the human being with wisdom and created within the body many openings and cavities. It is known before Your glorious throne that if one of them were to open when it should remain closed, or close when it should remain open, it would be impossible to survive and stand before You even for a single hour. Blessed are You, Lord, who heals all flesh and performs wonders.

My God, the soul You have given me is pure. You created it, formed it, breathed it into me, and preserve it within me. You will one day take it from me and restore it to me in the time to come. As long as my soul remains within me, I give thanks before You, Lord my God and God of my ancestors, Master of all creation and Lord of all souls. Blessed are You, Lord, who restores souls to lifeless bodies.

For women ·
Women say “modah ani” (feminine form) instead of “modeh ani”.
Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the universe, who has not made me a non-Jew.

Note. Important for conversion: there is a specific halachic discussion about this blessing for converts. Some authorities direct a convert to say a different wording, and there is disagreement about whether it is said with God’s name and kingship. Do not practise it as a live blessing until your accompanying rabbi tells you what to do.
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your might.
These words that I command you today shall be upon your heart.
You shall teach them diligently to your children and speak of them when you sit at home, when you travel on the road, when you lie down, and when you rise.
You shall bind them as a sign upon your hand, and they shall be a symbol between your eyes.
You shall write them upon the doorposts of your house and upon your gates.

Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the universe, who brings sleep upon my eyes and slumber upon my eyelids, and gives light to the pupil of the eye.
May it be Your will, Lord my God and God of my ancestors, that You allow me to lie down in peace and rise to a good and peaceful life. Grant me a portion in Your Torah, accustom me to fulfilling commandments and not to committing transgressions. Do not bring me to sin, wrongdoing, temptation, or disgrace. May my good inclination rule over me and not my evil inclination. Protect me from harm and illness, and do not let bad dreams or troubling thoughts frighten me. May my bed be whole before You, and enlighten my eyes lest I sleep the sleep of death.
Blessed are You, Lord, who illuminates the entire world with His glory.

Learn what to say, and when
You do not need to know every prayer by heart. For some it is enough to read from a siddur, understand the meaning and know when to say it. Before your conversion is complete, ask the rabbi who accompanies you which blessings to say with God’s name and kingship.
This book covers 27 core prayers and blessings. It is not the whole Jewish liturgy: the Amidah, the full weekday services, Grace after Meals, Shabbat, Kiddush, Havdalah and the holidays come later in your studies. Texts follow Nusach Ashkenaz, so use the siddur your beit din recommends for long prayers.
